It’s interesting to see how Caroline’s feelings towards Klaus are evolving. In 3x11, she assumed that Klaus was going to kill her. She was wrong in this assumption. He not only did not kill her, but he gave her a reason to live. Then, somewhere between their banter and intensity, Caroline began to feel safe with him. Somewhere in those moments, she understood that he would not harm her. This was perfectly expressed in episode 3x21. When hearing the words “you’re safe” leave his lips, she believed him. She relaxed because she knew, without a doubt, that as long as he was there, she was safe. What this moment made very clear is that if he were to ask her again, “do you really think that low of me?” her answer would likely be “no,” and that is beautiful.
